Who is Alec Readel?
Alec’s career spans manufacturing, engineering, and advanced materials synthesis. While working at a Knoxville-based startup, he developed expertise in translating advanced materials processes from the laboratory to industrial production. He founded Applied 2D Materials to apply that expertise to protecting steel components in harsh operating environments. The company uses technology licensed from Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deposit hexagonal boron nitride, an advanced material engineered to withstand conditions that degrade conventional coatings. Alec’s work is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
